SORU ve CEVAPLARLA ‘TURKISH A LEVELS PREDICTED GRADE’

❖ Predicted grade nedir?
İngiliz eğitim sisteminde “predicted grade” (tahmini not) kavramı, öğrencilerin üniversite başvurularında önemli bir rol oynayan bir değerlendirmedir. Bu notlar, öğrencinin 13. sınıfta gireceği A Levels sınavlarında öğrencinin hangi notu alacağının öğretmen tarafından öngörülmesidir. Öğrenci predicted grade’lere göre üniversite başvurusunda bulunur.
❖ Predicted grade verebiliyor musunuz?
Evet. Şimdiye kadar onlarca öğrenci için predicted verdim ve yıllardır bu işi yaptığım için sınavdan alacakları notu hemen hemen her zaman doğru tahmin etme imkanım oldu.
❖ Predicted grade alabilmek için ne yapmam gerekiyor?
Eğer adayımız daha önce hiç Türkçe ders almadıysa ve İngiltere’de doğup büyüdüyse predicted grade için en az 6 derse ihtiyacı olur. Akabinde mock exam yapılır ve hem dersteki durumuna hem de deneme sınavındaki başarısına göre predicted grade verilir.
❖ Türkiye’de eğitim almış öğrenciler için nasıl olur?
Türkiye’de eğitim almış öğrenci tabiki daha avantajlıdır. Ancak bu akademik bir sınav olduğu için ve sınavdan alabileceği notu doğru tahmin edebilmem adına yine ders yapmamız gerekir. Ortalama 3-4 ders bunun için yeterli geliyor ancak öğrencinin hala desteğe ihtiyacı olursa ders sayısını veliyle görüşüp artırabiliriz.
❖ Ders almadan sadece predicted grade alabilir miyim?
Maalesef böyle bir şey predicted grade vermenin doğasına aykırıdır. Predicted grade’in amacı öğretmenin adayın seviyesi hakkında bilgi sahibi olup sınavda ne alacağını tahmin etmesidir. Dolayısıyla öğrencinin seviyesini ölçmeden böyle bir şey mümkün değildir.
❖ Predicted grade için derslere ne zaman başlamalı?
Predicted grade için Oxbridge ya da tıpa başvuracak adaylarla Ekim ayına kadar dersleri tamamlamış olmalıyız. Bu sebeple Ağustos sonu yada en geç Eylül başında benimle iletişime geçilmesini ve derslere başlanmasını tavsiye ederim. Diğer üniversiteler için Aralık’a kadar vaktimiz var.
❖ Predicted grade’i kime göndermek gerekiyor?
Predicted grade için detaylı bir mektup yazıyorum ve bunu öğrencinin okulundaki Head of Languages ya da Form Tutor öğretmenine gönderiyorum.
❖ Grup dersi veriyor musunuz?
Evet ancak predicted grade için değil. Öğrencinin seviyesini doğru bir şekilde anlayabilmem için predicted grade’lerde birebir ders yapıyoruz. Predicted grade bittikten sonra sınava hazırlanırken grup dersi ayarlayabiliriz.
❖ Ücret ne kadar?
Bir saatlik ücret £50. Fakat bunu sadece bir saat olarak düşünmemek gerekir öncesindeki öğrenciye özel hazırlık, sınav kağıdını kontrol etme, predicted grade mektubunu yazma ve veliyle ya da okulla irtibata geçme gibi süreçler de epey vakit aldığından bunun bir bütün olarak düşünülmesini isterim.
❖ Daha iyi çalışacağıma söz versem predicted grade’i yükseltmeniz mümkün mü?
Öğrenci ya da velilerin, öğrencinin istediği üniversiteye girebilmesi için A Levels notunu olduğundan fazla vermesini istemeleri anlaşılabilir bir durumdur. Fakat öğrencinin olası notlarıyla ilgili gerçekçi beklentilere sahip olmasını sağlamakla birlikte, aynı zamanda motive edici ve istek uyandırıcı olmaya devam etmesini sağlamak için mesleki ve ahlaki bir sorumluluğumuz var.

A Levels notlarını kasıtlı olarak daha yüksek tahmin etmenin olası sonuçları şu şekilde özetlenebilir:
• Öğrenci eğer öngörülen yüksek notu alamazsa üniversiteye kabul edilmeme gibi bir riskle karşılaşıp clearing sürecini beklemek zorunda kalabilir.
• Öğretmen olarak benim de profosyonelliğim sorgulanır ve ilerideki öğrencilerim de bu durumdan etkilenebilir.

Q&A ABOUT TURKISH A LEVELS PREDICTED GRADES

❖ What is predicted grade?
Predicted grade is an assessment that plays an important role in students’ university applications. These notes are given by the teacher to foresee what the candidate can achieve in the upcoming A Levels exams in Year 13. Students apply for universities according to these predicted grades.
❖ Are you able to provide a predicted grade for Turkish A Levels?
Yes I am. I have provided predicted grades for a large number of students so far, and as an experienced teacher I was able to predict the grades they received on their exams accurately.
❖ What do I need to do to get a Predicted grade?
If the candidate has never had Turkish lessons before and was born and raised in the UK, he will need at least 6 lessons before I can provide the predicted grade. The number of lessons depend on the level of the candidate and also how much effort they are putting in the homework. Then the mock exam is made and predicted grade is given according to how the candidate does in the mock and during the lesson as well.
❖ How about for students who have been educated in Turkey?
The students who studied in Turkey for some time are undoubtedly more advantageous. However, since this is an academic exam we still need to do a lesson in order to predict the grade accurately. For such candidates around 3 or 4 lessons are generally enough but if there is a need for more lessons, I will discuss this with the parents.
❖ Can I only take the Turkish A Levels predicted grade without having lessons?
Unfortunately, this is not possible as it goes against the nature of giving a predicted grade. The purpose of the predicted grade is to have the tutor know about the candidate’s level and predict what they will get in the exam by assessing the student’s skills in various ways. Therefore I have to conduct one to one lessons to assess the level of the student in the best way.
❖ When does the candidate need to start lessons to get their predicted grades?
Candidates who aim to apply for Oxbridge or medicine faculty should make their applications by Ocotober. For this reason, I recommend to get in touch with me before September. Deadline for other universities is by December.
❖ Is it possible for you to overpredict my grade if I promise to work harder?
It is understandable for students and parents to want students to overestimate their A Levels grades in order to get into the university of their choice. But we have a professional and moral responsibility to ensure that the student has realistic expectations regarding their prospective grades, while remaining motivating and aspirational at the same time.

The possible consequences of over-predicting A Levels grades deliberately can be summarized as follows:
• If the student does not get the expected high grade, he/she may face the risk of not being accepted to the university and may have to wait for the Clearing process.
• As a teacher, my professionalism is also questioned and my future students may also be affected by this situation.
❖ Do you offer group lessons?
Yes I do but not for the predicted grades as I have to make sure I assess the candidate’s skills correctly. After the predicted grade is ready, we can arrange a group lesson.
❖ How much does it cost?
An hour of lesson costs £50. This includes all the marking, writing and sending the predicted grade as well as the time spent to get in touch with the parent and occassionally the school too.
